“This Little Light”

Matthew 5:13-16

Spelunking, better known as cave exploring, is one of the most intense and dangerous hobbies to pursue. While caves are always cool and filled with wondrous sights, there is always the danger of getting lost without a guide, or even worse, without light. One thing that is common to all caves, it is pitch black deep inside. Even so, one small lantern can lead an entire group safely through a system of caves.

Those without Christ in their lives wander this world in spiritual darkness. Many are gripped with fear, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future. Jesus said that His followers would be a light that would shine in this dark world.

“You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14, 16 NIV

Those who follow Jesus are the only true light that some will ever see. Jesus intended for His followers to live lives that bring glory to His name so that others are drawn into His love. This is perfect love that overcomes all fear and brings life and peace.

When others watch you, what do they see?
How bright is the light that your shine in front of your friends? Your parents? Your family?
God, give me strength to be a light for You to shine bright everywhere I go today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
