Read Nehemiah 4:7-15

As the work on the walls and gates progresses, the opposition to the work intensifies in like measure. As we will see this week, the opposition grows from ridicule designed to demoralize the workers, to a plot of violence against the people of Jerusalem.

As is our Monday custom, take time today to read through this passage slowly in at least three different translations. Read prayerfully with pen and journal nearby, writing down any key words or phrases that stand out to you as you read. I believe this is vitally important for God to speak directly to your heart through the influence of the Holy Spirit as you encounter His Holy word. Once we have meditated on the truths of this passage form ourselves, we will be ready to unpack the different ideas in this passage in the days to come.

Why do you think these foreign leaders are so concerned about the progress the Israelite workers have made on the walls and gates?
How would you feel as a worker with all of this opposition growing to the work?
