A Promise Kept
2 Peter 3:1-18
“With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise…” -2 Peter 3:8-9 (NIV)
During my childhood, my father took me fishing several times a year. He would promise to take me on a certain Saturday morning, and time seemed to almost stand still as that day approached. He would only heighten the anticipation by inspecting all of his gear and equipment the night before our trip. Before dawn, my father and I would load up in the station wagon and head for the lake. We would spend the day relishing the power of a promise kept.
In the same way that a father keeps his promises to his son, God keeps his promises to His children. However, sometimes it is harder to see God’s hand at work. We are reminded by God’s word that He is faithful and keeps His promises…just not on our time schedule. God has promised to never leave us or forsake us, and to ultimately return to redeem us. Let us live in the power of His promises!
“The LORD…will never leave you nor forsake you.”–Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)
