Devotions in Colossians
The Identity of Christ
Read Colossians 1:15-19
As we begin our third week in Colossians, you are now aware that I believe it is vitally important for us to read through this passage first to allow God to speak to our hearts through His Word and the Holy Spirit,
Again, while there is great value in reading what great minds (and not-so-great minds like mine) have written about Scripture passages over the centuries, I passionately believe that God wants to uniquely speak to our hearts through His word. Consider the words of Palm 119…
Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. Psalm 119:1-5
Since the Bible is a light to help lead us in our life journey, Christ-followers should be eager to read Scripture each day to receive words of direction and instruction.
Read through this passage slowly three times with your journal and pen in hand from your own Bible. As you read through this passage, write down any words or phrases that stand out to you. If you have access, read through this passage in different translations. (You can find quite a few translations at biblegateway.com).
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Him… Colossians 1:15-19 NIV
